Importing a JDM car might seem daunting, but Driver Motorsports simplifies the process for you by taking care of all of it! Our team has been helping people just like you find their dream classic JDM car for over 25 years combined. This means that, without tooting our own horn, we’re experts!
Before we get started, there are a few things that we’ll need to know about the process. They are:
- What kind of vehicle do you want? Whether you are looking for a Nissan Skyline, a Toyota Crown, or a Kei vehicle, we can help source any vehicle you want from Japan. If you need some ideas, be sure to check out our Inventory page.
- What are your must haves, “nice” to haves, and most importantly what condition vehicle are you looking for? We need to know what color preference, modifications, and overall condition you are looking for. You can be as picky as you want, but please know it may take longer for us to find that specific vehicle. Driver Motorsports will always try our hardest to only bring in the most quality vehicles as a standard operation practice. On the flip side, maybe you aren’t too worried about the paint condition, mismatched wheels, or accident history in which case we can help you source your next project car. Regardless if you’re looking for your next garage queen or an off-the-showroom floor-quality car, our team is here to help you find what you’re looking for.
- What is your overall budget? This is one of the most important parts of sourcing a car, and requires the most transparency with our team. This overall budget number is key because besides the cost of the car, there are also additional costs involved with importing a car including transportation to port, shipping costs, import fees, etc). Regardless of what your total budget is, our team is more than happy to help you locate the car of your dreams. Our expert staff have been importing cars for over 25 combined years and know all of the ins and outs regarding sourcing your car, successfully importing it, titling it in the USA, and most importantly, getting your car ready for you to do what you do best - DRIVE!
Once we have that information, we’ll send you a Square invoice for 10% of your overall budget. When that is paid, we’ll send an Import Source Agreement to your email via DocuSign.
Now we’ll start the hunt! If you have a specific vehicle in mind already, that’s fine too. Just send us the link! We’re happy to help you source a car or import your dream car.
Once we’ve helped you locate the car of your dreams, we’ll arrange payment for the balance due. This total balance includes the price of the vehicle and our dealership sourcing fee.
Our fee includes:
- Finding and/or purchasing the vehicle from Japan.
- Deregistration of the vehicle in Japan
- Arranging transport to a storage yard in Japan
- Managing Logistics for shipping to the export yard.
- Arranging transportation to the Port of export.
- Overseeing all the paperwork to get it on and off the ship legally
- Arranging inland transport from the Port of entry to our facility.
- Mechanical and physical inspection and report *with the option for us to do needed maintenance, small mods, etc.
- Comprehensive detail of engine bay, door jams, interior, and exterior.
- Multi-step paint correction including buffing, polishing, and waxing.
- a VA state title with 30 temporary registration.
